On Feb. 14, the Ashland University Indoor Track and Field team split up for the weekend, with a group of athletes heading to Grand Valley State for the GVSU Big Meet which lasts two days, while another group headed to SPIRE on Feb. 14 for the Spire Indoor College Games.
At GVSU, senior Braeden Geist broke the school record in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:15.45. This time also earned him a provisional(provo) mark for the NCAA Division II National Championship set to take place on March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, VA.
Also on Feb. 13, junior Colton Thress moved to No. 6 in DII in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:48.87.
Freshman Jon Lutz moved to No. 7 in the nation in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.88.
On day two, Graduate student Brayden Jackson jumped 5.25 meters in the men’s pole vault to earn him the No. 5 spot in DII.
At Spire on Feb. 14, the men’s distance medley relay (DMR) consisting of sophomore Wes Taylor, senior Joe Wahl, Thress, and junior Zach Vales recorded a time of 9:44.83, which broke the school record and moved them to No. 7 in DII.
The Eagles turn to the Last Chance Meet being held at their very own Niss Athletic Center on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m.
