The Ashland University wrestling team made the trip down to West Liberty, WV, on Feb. 12 after being rescheduled from Feb. 6. They would fall 29-20.
Just a few weeks ago, the Eagles would cap off another great Midwest Athletic Conference championship. Although the Eagles struggled in their West Liberty match, winning only four matches.
The Eagles would struggle right off the bat, losing the 125, 133, and 141 weight matches, falling to 17-0 to start the dual. Junior Hayden Kuhn would be the saving grace and then pick up a win, bringing the total to 17-5. In the 149-pound weight class, Kuhn took a technical fall and defeated West Liberty’s Joey Sentipal in a 19-4 win. Then, at the 184-pound weight class, redshirt freshman Fletcher Rose would take a 10-2 major decision over Oliver Byerly.
The Eagles continue to struggle, losing the next three matches at 157, 165, and the 174 weight classes. Then, in the 197-pound weight class, redshirt junior redshirt senior Peyton Lemon would pick up a victory over Blissenbach, absolutely destroying him in a 19-4 win and picking up a technical fall. To round out the eagle at the 285-pound weight class, redshirt senior Wyatt Bailey would be Vincent Parke by a fall, which would pick up 16 points; The Eagles would win the final three matches of the night but would fall short 29 to 20.
The Eagles will be back in action on Feb. 15, at home in a try meet where they will host Thomas Moore and Glenville, with the meet beginning at noon.
