The Ashland University Indoor Track and Field team hosted their fifth annual Jud Logan Light Giver Open to honor late Eagle coach, Jud Logan from Feb. 6 through 7.
On day one, it was an Eagle coach or athlete, the top four spots in the women’s weight throw elite were all Ashland related. Volunteer assistant coach Rachel Richeson won the event with a throw of 25.94 meters. Right behind her was junior Molly Winner with a throw of 21.38 meters. Junior Leslie Pollock took third with a throw of 19.20 meters. Taking fourth was sophomore Miranda Stone, who earned a new provisional (provo) mark for the NCAA Division II National Championship, throwing 18.47 meters.
Other Eagle relays and individuals earned new or improved provo marks as well: women’s distance medley relay (DMR) squad of senior Hope Sievert, sophomore Olivia Saylor, seniors Jade Avance and Emilie Lemon earned a new provo and won the event with a time of 11:43.46; the men’s DMR squad of sophomore Wes Taylor, senior Joe Wahl and juniors Colton Thress and Zach Vales earned a new provo and won the event with a time of 9:51.94; Junior Hailey Rios in the women’s long jump elite won the event and earned a new provo, jumping 5.77 meters; sophomore Hayden Valenti in the men’s weight throw elite earned silver, improving his provo with a throw of 19.75 meters and junior Cameron Nightingale in the men’s pole vault, earning a new provo with a jump of 4.8 meters.
On day two, Avance started the day by winning the 400-meter dash, earning a new provo along the way, with a time of 56.38.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay of sophomore Brianna Cheveney, senior Montana Walker, Saylor and Avance won the event with an improved provo time of 3:47.61.
Sophomore Trinity Keith was second in the men’s 60-meter dash with a new provo time of 6.78. Stone also earned a new provo in the women’s shot-put elite, throwing 13.71 meters. Up next for the Eagles, they will travel to the SPIRE Institute for the Spire College Indoor Games on Feb. 14.
