The No. 8-ranked Ashland University STUNT team opened their season in Louisville, Ky., where they lost 30-9 against No. 2-ranked Division I Kentucky.
The Eagles finished up the 2025 campaign with a 24-9 overall record and 8-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
“For this upcoming season we are looking to move up in those rankings…” says graduate base Meghan Ferrante. “…this team is special and I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish this year!”
The Eagles have put in the work in the off season and preseason to get there too, “Training has been good. The team is getting stronger every week and the progress is noticeable,” says junior back/base Maggie McKnight. “The practice and lift atmospheres are always so fun and light-hearted. We cheer for each other constantly and are one another’s biggest supporters.”
For freshman top/tumbler Izzy Thomas, STUNT is something she isn’t used to but beyond excited for. “Coming into STUNT, I really didn’t know what to expect, because it is so different from how I competed in high school. But everyone on the team is so kind and supportive… that made me fall in love with this sport and this team.”
On day 1, the Eagles faced the Wildcats in their first matchup of the season. Leading the way throughout their first game was junior back/base/tumbler Makiah Francis with 13 points.
The Eagles then returned to Division II play with their second game against No. 9-ranked Trevecca Nazarene. The Trojans handed the Eagles their second loss of the season with a final score of 23-20.
Leading the Eagles in game two was junior base/tumbler Kayla Bumgardner with 30 points.
The Eagles came back on day two with renewed energy that led them to a pair of wins to start their season 2-2.
Their first matchup of the season was against No. 21 St. Edward’s, where they won 19-2.
Leading the way once again for the Eagles was Bumgardner with 13 points.
In the second game of the day against No. 13 Purdue Northwestern, Francis led the Eagles to victory with 11 points.
Up next for the Eagles is their home opener on Feb. 8 at noon against No. 19 Walsh and a 2:30 p.m. game against Tiffin.
