The Ashland University Indoor Track and Field team hosted their annual home invite on Jan. 24 at the Niss Athletic Center.
Three Eagles won and set new facility and meet records during the day: Senior Jade Avance in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.16, improving her provo mark in the process; junior Colton Thress in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.78 and earning a new provo and assistant coach DaJuan Seward in the men’s triple jump, jumping 15.21 meters.
A handful of Eagles also earned or improved their provisional marks for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Sophomore Hayden Valenti won the men’s weight throw, throwing 19.52 and improving his previous provo mark; junior Matthew Noel earned a new provo and won the men’s high jump, jumping 2.09 meters and teammates freshman Braxton Moore placed second, earning his own new provo mark, jumping 2.04 meters.
Graduate student Brayden Jackson won the men’s pole vault with a new provo of 5.20 meters. Teammate sophomore Carter Smith placed fourth and improved his provo, jumping 4.90 meters.
Slippery Rock’s throwing coach Jordan Giest threw the number one shot put mark in the world this winter while at the invite, throwing 21.63 meters.
The following Eagles placed first in their respective events: junior Molly Winner in the women’s shot put, throwing 15.82 meters; freshman Alexis Wims in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25.12 seconds; junior Hailey Rios in the women’s 60-yard dash with a time of 7.82 seconds; senior Joe Wahl in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.91 seconds; junior Leslie Pollock in the women’s weight throw, throwing 18.70 meters; senior Brayden Geist in the men’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:27.40 and the women’s 4×400-meter relay consisting of junior Jordan Rosales, sophomore Brianna Chenevey, freshman Leila Evans and Avance with a time of 3:51.62.
Up next for the Eagles is the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, KY on Jan. 30 and 31.
