The Student Senate at Ashland University hosted Eagle Talk, which allows students, faculty and staff to meet and converse about different topics at AU.  

“In the past there was maybe a rocky relationship between senate and administration and what Eagle Talk does is try to smooth that out,” says Student Senate President and Student Body President, Aubrey Stepanik. “What we’re trying to do instead is make it more open and enjoyable space.” 

Originally, Eagle Talk was more of a panel, where students asked questions and the administration answered. However, under the previous Student Senate leadership, Aidan Nayak and Kara Crum, they saw the issues with this and tried to mend it to create a better relationship between the two entities.  

“I just wanted to get to know the staff,” says sophomore class president Evan Koren. “There’s been quite a few board members that I really wanted to get to know and get to know and get their insight into the actual university itself.”  

There was administration from all parts of campus, including dining, academics, facilities and more.  

“I just love to network and connect with students and hear about what’s going well, areas for improvement, just their overall student experience,” says Assistant Provost of Student Success and Senior Advisor to the President for Student Success, Catherine Williams. “Students gave me a couple of really good ideas for academic advising and things that we can do to help students understand the registration and catalog better.”  

Student Senate has a general meeting open to the public every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m., located in the ABCD Conference room in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center.
