The Ashland men’s soccer team concluded their season in a home game against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Nov. 1 in a tie at one apiece.
On senior day, senior forward Rodri Jimenez scored the lone goal for the Eagles in the seventh minute with an assist from freshman forward Tom Woodward.
In the 65th minute, the Yellowjackets tied it up, and the game remained that way until the end.
Woodward reflected on his first collegiate season. “I’m very proud of how this team has come together and played for each other throughout the season despite it being a tough one,” says Woodward.
Junior Enoch Oye agreed with his teammate, “The thing I’m most proud of this season is our ability to keep pushing forward when things didn’t go our way. There were games where I felt like the results were taken from us, but we never stopped fighting. Every time we stepped on the field, we matched up and gave it everything we had.”

Head coach Nick Roberts was proud of the effort the boys put into the season, despite being young. “Their work rate and effort, especially being such a young team, it was always going to be a challenge, but they approached every game with great effort and enthusiasm, and their will to win was terrific.”
Looking ahead to the offseason, Woodward is excited for the future of this team, especially since they are so young. “I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can do next season and believe we should have high goals and aspirations as we were a young side this year, so now with a bit of experience we can look at climbing up the table next season,” says Woodward.
“I am looking forward to having these kids with us for the next 3-4 years, maybe some longer. But the potential is evident despite a tough record, but I have no issue with that, I know what the long term looks like,” says Coach Roberts.
“Looking ahead, I think everyone’s excited because we know we’re a young team with a lot of potential,” says Oye. “There’s more we can give.”
The Eagles conclude their season at 4-9-4 overall and 3-8-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
