The Ashland University STUNT Team wrapped up a challenging weekend in Michigan, securing two victories but facing a tough loss to the No. 2-ranked Davenport University Panthers.
The Eagles went 2-2 over the weekend, defeating Tiffin University and the University of Michigan while falling to both Davenport and Michigan State University.
In the first game of the weekend, the Eagles faced off against the Panthers, ranked No. 2 in the nation. Despite a valiant effort, Ashland struggled throughout the match, ultimately falling by a score of 23-1.
However, Ashland quickly rebounded in the second game of the day, facing the No. 12-ranked Tiffin University Dragons. The Eagles emerged victorious, defeating Tiffin 16-9. Senior flyer/tumbler Alyssa McLaughlin led the Eagles with 38 points, earning recognition as the team’s top scorer. Senior base Mya Bowles was named Stunter of the Game and senior fly/base/tumbler Chloe Colvin received the Tumbler of the Game award for her outstanding performance.
The Eagles continued their weekend with two more challenging matchups on Sunday. In the first game of the day, Ashland took on the University of Michigan, securing a dominant 24-1 victory. Senior base/tumbler Meghan Ferrante led the Eagles with 46 points, while sophomore back/base/tumbler Makiah Francis earned Stunter of the Game honors. Senior flyer/tumbler, Kylie Adams, was named Tumbler of the Game for her contribution to the team’s success.
However, Ashland’s momentum was short-lived, as the Eagles fell to Michigan State University in the second game of the day, 20-10. Senior flyer/base/tumbler Chloe Colvin led the team with 25 points. Junior flyer/tumbler Emily Keeling was named Stunter of the Game and senior flyer/tumbler Elly Dukes received the Tumbler of the Game award.
With the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on the horizon, Ashland will travel to North Canton, Ohio on Saturday, March 22nd, for two important conference games. The Eagles will face Malone University and Walsh University, with both games serving as the final tests before the postseason begins.
