Senior Kylie Adams’ journey through Ashland University has been marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep passion for both cheer and physical therapy.
As she enters her final season with the Ashland University STUNT team, her story highlights the power of perseverance, community, and the pursuit of her dreams.
Adams’ journey into cheer and STUNT began long before she stepped onto the Ashland campus. Starting with power tumbling at a young age, Adams developed a love for the sport that eventually led her to competitive cheer and school cheer throughout her middle and high school years.
This foundation in power tumbling, a discipline focused on strength and explosive athleticism, would later play a significant role in her STUNT career.
“I started with power tumbling when I was really young—around 3 to 5 years old,” Adams recalls. “I continued with it for years before transitioning into competitive cheer and school cheer.”
At Ashland, Adams found not only a program that allowed her to continue pursuing her passion for cheer, but also a tight-knit community that made her feel right at home.
“I chose Ashland University because of STUNT—there aren’t many schools around here that have it. I also loved the small community and how close everyone was,” Adams explains. “The close-knit feel of the team definitely helped me decide on Ashland.”
As a senior, Adams has taken on a leadership role with the team. She is one of the head tumblers, responsible for keeping the team motivated and ensuring the execution of essential skills. Additionally, she plays a role in flying and maintaining team cohesion.
“My role this year is both in leadership and as one of the head tumblers. I also do a little bit of flying,” Adams shares. “As part of the leadership, my role is to make sure the team stays cohesive and bonded.”
Her leadership and expertise have had a lasting impact on her teammates, inspiring them both on and off the field. Adams’ favorite memories are rooted in the shared experiences and sense of camaraderie that comes with being part of the STUNT team.
“Most of my favorite memories come from traveling for game days. It’s such a great bonding experience,” she reflects. “But my favorite memory was last year during jumps and tumbling when we hit level 7—our hardest level that we consistently competed last year. The first time I landed that skill in a game was one of the most exciting moments for me.”
That excitement was palpable as her teammates rallied around her during the competition, creating an unforgettable moment of collective pride and achievement. “You could really feel the team’s energy, and that made it even more special. I love the feeling of competing in front of a crowd, knowing everyone is paying attention to you and rooting for you. It’s an insane feeling of pride and accomplishment,” she says.
Looking ahead, Adams is preparing for life after Ashland University, with plans to pursue physical therapy.
“I am going to Walsh University for physical therapy school. I was accepted last semester. It’s a three-year program, and it’s a doctorate program,” she shares.
Her commitment to both STUNT and her future career is a testament to her drive and determination.
As Kylie Adams concludes her final season with the STUNT team, she leaves behind a legacy of leadership, passion, and perseverance. Her journey—one that began with a love for tumbling and evolved into a promising career in physical therapy—continues to inspire those around her. Whether on the STUNT mat or in the classroom, Adams is poised for continued success in whatever she sets her mind to.
