The Ashland University men’s soccer team competed against the Northwood University team on Thursday Oct. 10 at Ferguson Field.
The beginning of the game started slowly, neither team scoring; however, it wasn’t until the 33rd minute that the Northwood Timberwolves Chris Escalante scored on the Eagles, creating a 0-1 game.
The Eagles were eager to get onto the board score, so less than five minutes of the Timberwolves goal, AU’s Oliver Lovell scored on the Timberwolves with an assist by AU’s Riki Soto, creating a 1-1 game.
This goal turned the game around foe the Eagles despite not being on the scoreboard first, Eagles Oliver Whaley was awarded a Penalty Kick during the 40th minute and successfully made it create a 2-1 game – Eagles up on the scoreboard.
The Eagles didn’t stop there during the first half, because with one minute left in this half Eagles Flyn Toon assisted by Eagles Soto scored on the Timberwolves creating a 3-1 game to let the Eagles take the lead before halftime.
The Timberwolves entered the second half of the game eager to get on the scoreboard again but were unable to attempt any shots.
The Eagles put themselves on the scoreboard for a final time during the 64th minute of the game when Rodri Jimenez scored unassisted.
This was Jimenez’s first goal as an Ashland Eagle.
Other highlights of the game included freshman goalkeeper David Berglund playing for the first half of the game making two saves.
The Eagles outshot the Timberwolves 9-7 and had six corner kicks compared to the Timberwolves four.
The Eagles now sit at 4-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.
They’ll look to further improve upon their record when they take on Walsh University for Senior Day on Saturday Oct. 12 with a kickoff set at 6:30 p.m.
