On Sept. 8, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) sent a letter to AU president Dr. Carlos Campo concerning Ted Daniels, former adjunct instructor and faculty adviser to The Collegian, on his release from the university.
FIRE is the leading organization in the nation in defending fundamental rights on and off college campuses and is non-partisan.
FIRE received a response from Dr. Campo on Sept. 13 and was sent back privately to FIRE.
On Sept. 18, FIRE sent a second letter back to Dr. Campo stating, “Ashland must publicly commit refrain from any adverse action against The Collegian’s new adviser or student journalists, and should also assure all faculty – including adjunct instructors – that they enjoy full academic freedom free from official retaliation.”
Ashland University’s administration has yet to do that, but FIRE gave them until Sept. 21. by close of business
Below are the following three letters of the correspondence between FIRE and Dr. Campo.
