The Ashland University STUNT team secured a big win while losing one, in the team’s doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 26.

On the road in Alma, Mich., the team started their day with a 2-24 loss to the former No. 4 team in the country at the end of the 2022 STUNT season, the Davenport Panthers. After the team’s loss to the Panthers, they bounced back and secured a massive 14-13 win over Central Michigan.

The team had confidence going into their two contests this past weekend, but going up against two Division I programs would be nerve-wracking.

The Eagles showed those nerves against Davenport as they fell 2-22 to the Panthers. The Eagles could not secure points until the third quarter in that contest, making the lead 12-2. In the fourth, the Panthers dominated with 12 more points to finish the contest with a 24-2 win.

After falling to the Panthers, the Eagles mounted confidence and took down their first Division I opponent in program history. The Eagles held the lead for the entirety of the contest as after two quarters they led 6-3. In the third, the Chippewas brought the game back with a 3-2 quarter win, cutting the lead down to 8-6. In the fourth, the Eagles stood strong as they secured six points and the Chippewas brought in seven.

The nailbiting 14-13 win puts the Eagles record to 5-1 on the season.

The team’s next contests come Saturday, March 4, where they take on two powerhouses in Michigan State (MSU) and the University of Kentucky. They will take on MSU at 1 p.m. and Kentucky at 2 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.
