For their second meet of the season, the men and women Ashland Eagles cross country teams attended the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 16 at Michigan State University.

“It was a super competitive meet lots of DI school, lots of GLIAC schools, and also schools that we will see come Regional time,” Coach Thomas Scott said. “For the entire team this was their first 8k and 6k of the year and for the freshmen it was their first 8k or 6k ever.”

For the men, their top seven scoring athletes in order were Aubrey Jordan, Stephen Kapes, Tommy Menyes, Nick Hall, Tyler Lance, Zach Humrichouser, and Kyle Shively.

“I was happy with how they competed,” Scott said. “They definitely put themselves in the race.”

On the women’s side, their top seven scoring athletes in order were Emily Schumaker, Linda Morales, Kaylie Murray, Johannah Stefanek, Jackie Genetin, Cortney Haubert, and Austin Borton.

The Eagle women placed ninth in the 12-team Division II race.

“We’ve always been a program that comes on strong at the end of the year, thats just the way we set up our training,” Scott said. “We have work to do for sure, but I know the kids are willing to put in that work.”

Ashland University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete again on Sept. 30 at the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.

“The guys and girls were excited this morning and it got me really excited,” Scott said. “I think we’re going to run some pretty sweet times at All-Ohio. We got work to do, as always, our region and the GLIAC are a tough conference and tough region to be in.”
