AU men’s soccer continues to roll with 4-2 win

Rocha scores hat trick to secure victory

The Ashland University men’s soccer team continued its hot play, and so did midfielder Vander Rocha with a 4-2 win over the Malone Pioneers.

In the previous contest against the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans Rocha recorded two assists to help secure a 3-1 victory.

Just three days later on Oct. 4, Rocha recorded his first, second, and third goal as an Eagle to amount to a hat trick.

He opened the contest with a goal in the 3rd minute with the assist being recorded by midfielder Teddy Togliatti.

Just a minute later Rocha would connect for his second of the game which was assisted by 5th-year defender Oliver Whaley to put the Eagles up 2-0.

The Pioneers would finally answer in the 20th minute from midfielder Christian Piccolotto to lighten the gap to one score.

The next goal of the contest would come from a penalty kick where midfielder Matthew Roberts clocked in his second goal of the season.

In the 68th minute, the Pioneers once again made it a one-score game with a goal from forward Randy Harris. On the assist was midfielder Fraeday Moo.

Just six minutes later Rocha would knock in his third and final goal of the contest to secure the deal off of a pass from forward Jake Grove.

The Eagles saw another electrifying victory to improve to 7-3-1 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. The victory also extends the win streak to six games for the Eagles which is the longest since the team returned to the University in 2016.

They return to play Thursday, Oct. 6 against the Cedarville Yellowjackets at home with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.
