Austin Brenner is already a member of the 2022 American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team and has earned yet another honorable mention.

Announced on Wednesday morning by the National Football Foundation (NFF), Brenner has been named one of 156 semifinalists for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy. The trophy is awarded to one player in the nation that exemplifies academic success, football performance and tremendous leadership.

Brenner in the academic success category maintained a 3.79 GPA throughout his undergrad time here at AU and currently has a 3.68 GPA in his work toward a master of arts in Christian ministry.

As for his athletic performance and leadership, Brenner is a team captain and has led AU to a 3-0 start on the turf. Brenner has recorded 525 yards and 2 touchdowns so far this season.

Now, for 8 consecutive years, AU has had a Campbell trophy finalist, with zero winning the award. The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 26, and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.

One of the finalists will be named the winner of the 33rd Campbell Trophy during the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 6, and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
