Ashland University’s women’s soccer head coach Cayleb Paulino’s second season is underway as head coach at the university after a successful first season.

Paulino led his team to a 15-2-3 record, won a Great Midwest Athletic Conference title, and hosted a home game in the NCAA Division II postseason tournament before being knocked out.

Paulino started his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Defiance yellow jackets from 2012 to 2014. He then was the assistant coach for the men’s soccer team for Ohio Northern University from 2015 to 2018.

In the 2021-2022 season, he became the Ashland Eagles women’s soccer head coach. Paulino only had a week to prepare for the season.

“He came in and helped us with scoring, confidence, and discipline,” said senior Bailey Clark.

Paulino is excited coming into this season. Moving closer to the university he feels he can be more involved with the team during the 2022-2023 campaign.

“It feels like a new team this year,” said Paulino. “Teams are coming for us.”

He has had to teach the team the university’s values and move the team into a new style of play.

Clark also mentioned how prepared Paulino was entering this year.

“I think he has a vision for the season,” said Clark.

Paulino does have goals for the future of the team that starts this season.

“We want to be on the national stage, we want to be in the conversation where Ashland is a top 10 team in the program,” said Paulino.

Coach Paulino has made a big impact on the Ashland University women’s soccer team and hopes that they continuously improve. He is a big believer that his team is a close group of girls who should look to improve themselves and each other on and off the soccer field.
