Erin Daniels, a recent Ashland University women’s basketball alumnus, will be returning to Kates Gymnasium this upcoming season and be on the sideline again with her team, not as a player but as the team’s graduate assistant.

Daniels joining as a graduate assistant is a huge step toward forwarding her coaching career.

“I wanted to start my coaching career at one of the best college programs in the country and continue to learn from incredible coaches and players,” said Daniels. “After my two years is up as being GA, my hope is that I gain valuable knowledge that will help me succeed in my coaching career and life.”

Coming back to Ashland as a graduate assistant was something that she’s been extremely thankful for.

“It meant so much to me to be able to come back to AUWBB and be the Graduate Assistant! I’m thankful for this opportunity,” Daniels said.

After a tough 72-62 loss to Walsh University in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional semifinal back in March, the women’s team finished at No. 2 in the country and sat at a 29-3 winning record.

When asked what her expectations are for this upcoming season, she had high hopes that the team will make it farther than last season.

“This season, we want to win our conference and then go on to win a National Championship! Additionally, we want to make a positive impact on and off the court”, said Daniels. “There are several things I’m looking forward to this season, but I’m really excited to watch this group of girls do some big things.”

As the Eagles near their upcoming season, they welcome 6 newcomers to the team after losing four seniors at the end of last season, including Coach Daniels.

The women’s season will begin Nov. 11 at non-conference Wayne State in Detroit. Their first in-conference game will be Dec. 1 as they take on the Findlay Oilers.
