Career readiness starts with Handshake

Throughout all the years in college, one question will always pop up during family gatherings, What will you do after graduation?
Zach McGrain, executive director of the Career Center for Life Calling, said, “ It’s okay to not be 100 percent sure of what you want to do.”
The Career Center for Life Calling’s goal is to help students prepare for the future while taking it a few days at a time.
“We are here to support all Ashland University students to help them discern what their life’s calling is and that we are on a professional track,’’ McGrain said. “It’s not a linear path by any means… But we are here to really develop a system where we are engaging early and often.”
Their services include: mock interviews, resume workshops and helping you find internships that are in your desired career field.
Currently the center is getting ready for a few different events to finish out the spring semester.
There will be a university-wide career fair on March 22, according to McGrain.
“We are anticipating around 30 employer tables,” McGrain continued. “All students are encouraged to go. It’s a great opportunity to practice, to meet people, to engage and network.”
The career fair will be held in the upper level of the John C. Myers Convocation Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is also something made specifically for the College of Education.
“We are bringing in eight school districts from the region and doing a two-day mock interview for all students within the college of education,” McGrain added.
For more information on any of the events or services log into Handshake using your student ID and password.
“Handshake is the career management system,” says McGrain “It’s the front door to all things career and professional.”
