The Ashland University volleyball team has been on fire since Sept. 3 winning 13 straight matches against non-conference and conference opponents.

The Eagles took down the Findlay Oilers and Hillsdale Chargers in their most recent competitions, with both opponents currently at the top of the GMAC North Division standings.

Taking on the Oilers on Friday, Oct. 7 in Kates Gymnasium, the Eagles looked stellar.

In the first set, the Eagles never fell behind en route to a 25-20 victory.

The final two sets were a breeze for them as they easily handled the Oilers 25-14 in the second set and 25-15 in the third set to secure the 3-0 win.

Sophomore Makenna Belcher finished the contest with 13 kills while 5th-year Erin Krupar recorded 11 kills.

Junior libero Katie Thompson led the way with 14 digs and two aces to round out the outstanding performance for the Eagles.

At home again the following day on Oct. 8, the Eagles downed the Hillsdale Chargers in another statement victory.

The first set saw a 25-20 nailbiting win, the second saw a 25-14 blowout, and lastly the third set was the closest finishing at 25-21, all in favor of the Eagles.

The 3-0 win saw Krupar with 17 kills to lead the way alongside an ace. Senior Stephanie Smith also showcased her talents with 20 digs.

With two back-to-back sweeps against two of the top teams in the GAMC, the Eagles have solidified themselves as a team to be beaten.

With the win against Findlay and Hillsdale they improved to 16-5 overall and 11-0 in conference play on the season.

They next hit the courts on Friday, Oct. 14 for the GMAC Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover with their opponent to be determined in the coming days.
