Bookstore hosts food drive put on by AU athletic teams
October 26, 2020
This year the Ashland University campus bookstore is partnering up with the Men’s Basketball team as well as Cheer and Dance team to help bring in food donations. Each food item received will be given directly to someone in the Ashland community.
The food drive was created as a way to help donate food for Associated Charities. An organization that provides assistance to the Ashland community by assisting with utilities, shelter, medications and doctor and dentist visits.
According to the American Public Health Association, “Food drives are really important as they help us provide food for our community members and help us provide the most nutritious and balanced food for them as well.”
“The bookstore is collecting the food items along with promoting the food drive as well. Albany Finnell, a student worker at the campus bookstore said. If you bring… bring in a non- perishable food item donation to the campus store, you can receive 10% off any item in the store. This offer can go up to 30% off each item. Though it is not valid for any textbooks, nursing scrubs, promotional or sale items”.
“This food drive is so special because it gives back to the Ashland community. When we donate these items, we know exactly where they are going and who will personally benefit from them. Finnel said. Giving back to our Ashland community is so important, because we want to build up the community as a whole and help out in whatever way we possibly can.”
Stop by the campus bookstore located on the bottom floor of the Student Center to drop off some non-perishable food items. The food drive will be running now until Oct.31.
“There is no specific food or items we are looking for, just whatever they have to give is perfect. Every little thing helps!” Finnell says.
