The Ashland University women’s basketball team exploded for a program record 71 points in the first half as they dominated the Tiffin Dragons (5-14, 3-11 GLIAC), 119-74.

 It is the seventh time this season that the Eagles have eclipsed the 100-point mark and they nearly did so in just three quarters.

Bre Nauman got the Dragons on the board first with an early jumper but the Eagles quickly recovered and jumped out to a 5-2 lead.

A three by Sarah Cummings tied the game at five, but AU quickly went on a 5-0 run and never looked back. The Eagles scored 36 points in the first quarter thanks to a 13-3 run in which Maddie Dackin scored nine of the 13 points.

Dackin had 12 points in the first quarter and she finished tied for the team lead with 17. 

The second quarter belonged to Kelsey Peare as she was a perfect 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc for eight points as the Eagles swelled their lead to 71-46 at the half.

Peare finished with 12 points to go along with three assists and three steals in 20 minutes. 

The 46 points the Eagles surrendered in the first half was the most they have given up in the first half this season.

The Eagles turned on the defense in the third quarter as they allowed just four points the entire quarter.

AU opened up on a 10-0 run coming out of the break before Kristen Massey ended the Eagle run, but it was short lived as the Eagles went on a 14-0 run before the Dragons were able to put more points on the board.

AU led 97-50 at the end of three. 

The starters for the Eagles sat out the entire fourth quarter as they cruised to the 119-74 win. 

The win gave the Eagles their 22^nd straight win as they improve to 22-0 on the year and 14-0 in the GLIAC. The Eagles now are off to the second best start in program history and they need just two more wins to tie the program record that was set in 2013 when the Eagles won their first 24 games.

Despite the lopsided score, the Eagles had a very balanced scoring attack as Snyder, Dackin and Worley each had 17.

Jodi Johnson had 16 points, three rebounds, and five assists and Andi Daugherty had 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

AU forced 31 turnovers, which led to 47 points and shot 59.2% from the floor.

 Ashland will be on the road this weekend, as they will take on Ohio Dominican on Thursday and Hillsdale on Saturday as they look to stay unbeaten.
