Track and field competes at Youngstown State
January 21, 2017
The Ashland University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Friday at the Youngstown State College Invitational.
Victories came for many runners and jumpers despite the amount of injured team members that are currently out. One of those injuries, however, did come out of the meet. Sophomore Jacob Bon suffered from a strained hamstring during his long jump event.
Sophomore Myles Pringle made headlines at the meet with his provisional time in the men’s 200-meter dash with a second place finish with a time of 21.52. This event makes it the third time Pringle has had provisional times including his times from the 400-meter dash and high jump.
Another provisional mark came from senior Marlecia Holston in the long jump event with a jump of about 18 feet, which earned her second place. Sophomore Devin Snowden and freshman Arthur Greenlee IV both earned provisional times in the men’s 60 hurdles.
Senior Becca Koval took third place overall in women’s high jump with a jump of 5 foot 3 inches. Koval was the highest jumper on the women’s side. For the men, Pringle was the runner-up with a jump close to 7 feet.
Some third place finishes included sophomore Steven Kapes in the men’s 5,000 meter run, junior Haley Gregory in the women’s 60 meter hurdles, and sophomore Jacob Sprague in the men’s pole vault.
The track and field team are back in action Jan. 27-28 at the Findlay Elite and the Penn State Penn Nationals next weekend.
