Eagle wrestling dominates at home

The Ashland Eagles wrestling pulled a shutout performance Wednesday as all Eagles wrestlers that took to the mat came away victorious in their second home dual against Lourdes College at Kates Gymnasium.
The final score at the end the night was 52-0 in favor for coach Josh Hutchins’ 13th ranked AU squad.
Redshirt sophomore Sebastian Vidika opened up the events with his first round pin of Lane Trapp at 125 pounds
Top nationally ranked redshirt seniors Michael Labry (133) and Chandler Minnard (141) both produced wins with technical falls, along sophomore Colton Ullman (157), redshirt junior Jordan Murphy (184), redshirt junior Luke Cramer (197), and sophomore Deaken McCoy (285)
Sophomore Lawrance Dudgeon won his match match at (149) by major decision against Flynn Hamilton 20-0
The most exciting match of the night took place between redshirt freshman Bret Romanzak and Lourdes’ Chaz Hudson at 165 pounds as Romanzak won by pin at 6:11 into the match.
“I felt good. I really wanted to come out and push the pace and weigh on the guy to test myself and my conditioning.” Romanzak said.
Romanzak also sang high praises about the overall effort of the team as a whole.
“I knew we were going to come out and have 10 guys wrestle to the best of their ability,” Romanzak said. “That was a lot of fun.”
Coach Hutchins was content with the effort of his Eagle squad.
“Any time you can dominate anyone like that,” Hutchens said, “that gives you a lot of confidence. We know we have the talent.”
The Eagles take the mat this Friday night at 7 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium when one of the newest additions to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Davenport College, face Ashland University in the third home dual of the season.
