The Walsh Cavaliers were the only team who was able to hold the Eagles down last year during the regular season, but on Thursday night the Ashland University women’s basketball team dominated the Cavs, 90-53.

It did not take long for the Eagles to take flight as Kelsey Peare knocked down a couple of triples to open the Eagles up to an 8-0 lead. The Cavaliers were able to put some quick points on the board, but a 10-2 run to close out the first quarter put the Eagles in front 27-10 heading into the second.

Walsh was able to play even with AU in the second as it remained a 17-point advantage for the Eagles heading into the locker room.

The Eagles dominated in the second half outscoring the Cavaliers 46-26 on their way to the 90-53 win.

The Eagles improve to 20-0 on the season and 12-0 in the GLIAC.  They are now just one win away from tying the second best start in program history.

AU shot 62.5% from the floor, their second highest total of the season, and shot 50% from three.

Laina Snyder continued her dominance as she nearly eclipsed the 20-point mark in the first half as she poured in 19 in the first two quarters. She finished with 23 points on 11-15 shooting and six rebounds.

Jodi Johnson continued her solid play as she had 13 points and seven rebounds. 

Kelsey Peare was perfect from behind the arc as she finished with 11 points on the night.

It was a stellar defensive effort by the Eagles as they forced 19 turnovers and turned them into 25 points and held the Cavaliers to just 28.3% shooting. 

Walsh was led led by Brooklyn Wooten who had 11 points. The Cavs fall to 9-10 on the season and 5-7 overall.

The Eagles will looked to stay unbeaten as they head home to take on Findlay for game No. 2 of their three games in five day stretch.
