It was a familiar scene inside Kate’s Gymnasium on Thursday night as the crowd rose to their feet as Rachelle Morrison banked in a layup to give the Eagles their fifth 100-point game of the season. 

The Ashland University women’s basketball team opened up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division play with a 101-62 win over the Ohio Dominican Panthers (10-6, 5-4).

The score was knotted at 10 early in the first quarter when Kelsey Peare knocked down a three and sparked a 12-0 run by the Eagles and they never looked back. 

The Eagles had another big second quarter as they scored 31 points to give them a 55-25 lead at the half.

The Panthers opened the second half on a 5-0 run but that was quickly thwarted and the Eagles soon took over and cruised to the 39-point victory.

With the win the Eagles improve to 17-0 on the season and 9-0 in the GLIAC.

“It was a great start in the South,” head coach Robyn Fralick said. “We know each other really, really well. What we were most proud of is we played really hard.”

Laina Snyder led all scorers with 24 points as well as six rebounds and four assists. Julie Worley had 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench to go along with four rebounds. 

Peare finished with 12 points and four assists for the Eagles.

Ashland continued its defensive dominance as they forced 31 turnovers, 20 of which came via the steal. 

With the win, Fralick has now won 48 out of her first 50 games as head coach.

The Eagles will continue GLIAC South play on Saturday against Hillsdale.
