Eagles seven game win streak snapped

The Ashland University men’s basketball team lost 80-78 to Ohio Dominican in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Alumni Hall on Thursday.
The loss ends AU’s seven-game winning streak.
Junior forward Marsalis Hamilton posted a career-high 28 points (22 in the second half) and chipped in seven rebounds and five assists.
Senior guard Adrian Cook added 16 points, while senior forward Torin Wetzel (9 points, 6 rebounds), sophomore guard Nick Bapst (7 points) and senior guard Boo Osborne (7 points, 6 rebounds) also contributed for Ashland.
The Eagles (14-7, 9-6 GLIAC) got 22 points from their bench.
Ashland held a 12-7 lead in the first four minutes and was then ahead 20-19, but ODU then held AU scoreless for more than three minutes and scored five consecutive points.
The Panthers had their biggest lead of the first half at 33-28, but Ashland slashed it to 37-34 at the intermission.
ODU (12-9, 7-8 GLIAC) extended its lead to 46-38, but the Eagles kept clawing and cut the Panthers’ lead to 48-43.
Ohio Dominican responded with five consecutive points, forcing an Ashland timeout with 13:06 left in the game.
AU then went on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 56.
The Panthers replied with six straight points before Wetzel hit a 3-pointer to stop the run.
With 4:58 left in the game, the Eagles trailed 65-63.
Ashland held a 72-69 lead with 2:12 remaining after Osborne hit a three.
ODU responded with seven straight points to take a 76-72 lead.
Wetzel hit another triple with 18 seconds left to bring AU back to within one point, but the Panthers made four free throws to seal the win.
Next up for AU is a road contest at Hillsdale (10-11, 6-9 GLIAC) on Saturday. The game starts at 3 p.m.
