Eagles struggle at Findlay

The Ashland University men’s basketball team lost at Findlay 85-65 at Croy Gymnasium on Saturday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
Senior guard Adrian Cook scored 16 points to lead the Eagles (16-9, 11-8 GLIAC), and he became the 26th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career.
Sophomore guard Ben Haraway chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and four assists for AU.
The Oilers (21-5, 15-4 GLIAC) led 31-23 in the first half before the Eagles closed the gap to 31-29 heading into halftime.
AU tied the game at 31 after a junior forward Marsalis Hamilton layup, and Ashland re-tied the game at 35 with a junior center Teddy Metzen free throw.
Findlay responded with eight consecutive points, forcing the Eagles to call a timeout with 14:55 remaining in the game.
The Oilers increased their lead to 47-37 and then 53-40 with less than 12 minutes left.
AU kept fighting and cut its deficit to 54-45, but Findlay responded with a 10-2 run to quiet any comeback attempt that the Eagles had brewing.
The Eagles have now lost 17 straight at Findlay — the last win was Jan. 19, 2002.
Up next for AU is its regular-season finale against Tiffin (11-16, 6-13 GLIAC) on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium.
