The Ashland University Women’s basketball team used a program record 17 three pointers to bury the Lake Erie Storm 111-70 and grabbed hold of the best best record to start a season in AU history at 25-0.

It was domination from the start for the Eagles as Kelsey Peare got things going from behind the arc in the first quarter as she knocked down four threes and propelled AU to a 25-9 first quarter advantage.

Peare stayed hot in the second as she added in a couple more threes and ended the half with 18 points. She finished with 24 points on 8-12 shooting from behind the arc as she fell one shy from the AU record.

AU led 72-52 at the end of the third quarter before they erupted for 39 points in the fourth quarter as they surpassed the 100-point mark for the ninth time this season.

The Eagles had six players in double figures as they shot 55.4% from the field and over 60% from the three-point arc.

After a 21-0 start in her first year as head coach, Robyn Fralick has taken the Eagles to new heights to start this season as they remain one of two unbeaten teams in Division II.

“It’s just a testament to this team and their consistency, their ability to work and their ability to just stay present,”  Fralick said. “It’s a great record, but yet it just seems really peripheral, in the whole scheme of us focusing on consistent improvement.”

With the win the Eagles extended their regular season win streak at Kate’s Gymnasium to 38 games.

The Eagles have three games left on the schedule, two of which will be at home starting with Walsh next Thursday.
