Track and Field competes at Raleigh Relays

The outdoor track and field season began for the Ashland University men’s and women’s teams at the Raleigh Relays and Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday.
Myles Pringle broke his own AU record in the 400-meter dash by turning in a time of 45.99, which was good for first place. That time automatically qualified him for nationals.
In the men’s hammer throw, Daniel Roberts finished second (223 feet, 0 inches) and automatically qualified for nationals. Jordan Crayon (4th, 212-4); Bryn Campbell (6th, 198-3); Alex Hill (7th, 192-5); Stephen Pop (9th, 181-5); and Nick Zak (10th, 180-0) all turned in provisional distances in the event.
Dylan Kipp finished third in the men’s javelin (175-6).
Mackenzie Leigh (4th, 185-10) and Natalie Helenthal (6th, 178-0) both turned in provisional marks in the women’s hammer throw.
On Saturday in the men’s discus, Roberts (1st, 53.81 meters) and Jason Zahn (2nd, 52.00 meters) both provisionally qualified for nationals.
Elijah Talk (4th, 18.31 meters); Zahn (6th, 16.41 meters); and Zachary Smelcer (8th, 16.22 meters) all provisionally qualified for nationals in the men’s shot put.
Talk also placed second (45.30 meters) in the men’s discus B.
