Labry Crowned National Champion; Eagles Wrestling Places sixth

Redshirt senior Michael Labry ended his historic career at Ashland University in style as he brought home the Eagle’s first wrestling national championship since 1996 this past weekend in Birmingham, Ala. at the NCAA DII national tournament where the Eagles wrestling squad impressed placing sixth nationally.
Labry won the 133lb title by defeating No. 2-ranked Minnesota State Moorhead’s Blake Bosh by decision 7-5. Labry made his way to the final by beat Gannon freshman Carmine Ciotti in the semi-final match, 7-1.
The four time All-American and all time career wins record holder achieved his goal of winning the national championship as Labry has spent his time here at Ashland University inching closer and closer to the top spot on top of the national podium.
Labry’s career has been steadily moving towards this moment from day one at for the Eagles wrestling program his freshman year in which he placed fourth nationally. He continued his progress placing third his sophomore year, second his junior year, and taking a redshirt year in which he spent the year wrestling in open tournaments against top notch competition including DI schools.
All-American honors also went to redshirt juniors Luke Cramer, who placed third in the nation at 195lbs, and Jordan Murphy who placed sixth at 184lbs.
Cramer was just points away from landing in the championship match and looks forward to next season to follow in Labry’s footsteps in becoming the next Eagle wrestler to become national champion.
