Quality Inn Ashland University Tournament

The Ashland University volleyball team started their season with a 2-0 record. Their first match on Friday was at home 3-0 (25-13, 26-16, 25-13) against Urbana. It was their first match of the Quality Inn Ashland University Tournament in Kates Gymnasium.

Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik totaled 17 kills and added two aces and nine digs.

The Eagles had the lead in the first set, 11-10, but they took the next eight points due to junior Kaitlyn Bean.

For Ashland, junior middle Reanne Neal had nine kills, four aces and five blocks. Michaela Ping had six kills and Sophi Cudworth had five. Senior Melanie Aguayo, led back row with 15 digs and Bean had 11 attacks.

For the Blue Knights not one player had over four kills.

Ashland University’s second match was against Truman State and it ended up going into four sets with the outcome of the Eagles winning 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-22 25-17).

After losing set two Ashland came out leading most of the third set. The Bulldogs passed them to have the Eagles at 20-22. Ashland got a double block by Woycik and Neal. Kayla Pfeiffer had a kill to tie the game at 22s. The last three points for the Eagles to take set three were two kills by Woycik and one from Neal.

The Eagles took that momentum from set three into set four by scoring six straight points to take a lead of 6-1. The Eagles did not take their foot off the pedal with going up by as many as 14 points. Cudworth had 16 kills, Woycik followed with 13 kills. Ping had eight kills and Aguayo finished with a team high of 19 digs

Jocelynn Livingston led the Bulldogs with 14 kills and Sam Yancy had 12 kills and 15 digs.

The Eagles will return to action at home on September 2 vs Lake Erie at 2 and Pitt-Johnstown at 7 in Kates Gymnasium.
