The Ashland University Women’s Softball Team stands 16-12 in the conference and 31-19 overall. This makes the softball team 3rd in the GLIAC conference for this season.

Just a few of Asmus’s achievements for the 2018 season include second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, CoSIDA Academic All-District, second-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer, boasted a .992 fielding percentage at first base, and landed a spot on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. Not to mention her above 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.

When asked how she got to Ashland University Asmus said, “I did not originally get recruited to play here my freshman year. After a coaching change at Ohio Northern, I was looking to transfer to other schools. One of my coaches at Ohio Northern was an Ashland softball alumni and recommended I check out Ashland. I took a visit in the summer and met with the coaches and decided that this was the place for me.”

Softball has always been a major part of her life.

“It has taught me responsibility and time management skills. It has also provided me with an opportunity to play the sport I love while getting to pursuing my dream of becoming an occupational therapist,” Asmus said. “I have also been able to meet so many great people along the way. I have met life long friends and great mentors. It has provided me with so many great experiences and opportunities and helped shape the person I am today.”

Asmus started playing when she was very young, and has never given up on the sport.

“I started playing softball around 6 years old with playing tee ball. I played for rec teams for a couple of years, and then transitioned to playing competitive travel ball in the summers until I went to college. I started my freshman year at Ohio Northern University, but transferred to Ashland my sophomore year,” Asmus said.

Although she has always had mentors in her life, her father is certainly her biggest supporter.
“My dad has definitely helped me the most throughout my softball career. When I first started playing softball, my dad would always help coach my teams. As I got older, he didn’t coach anymore, but he would always be willing to go out and help me practice. We spent many evenings out practicing softball at the high school field. He has been one of my greatest supporters and has never gave up on me,” Asmus said.

The Women’s Softball Team is performing exceptionally better than they did in the 2018 team.

Last season’s records were 13-15 in the conference and 23-25 overall.

“It has been great being on the softball team at AU. I have met so many great people along the way. I have been able to continue playing the sport I love with a great teammates and coaches,” Asmus said. “My team is like family to me. We spend a lot of time together and always have each others backs. I have had many great experiences with them on and off the field and will miss them all next year.”

Since transferring from Ohio Northern, Asmus has enjoyed her time here at Ashland.

“AU has been my home away from home. I have been able to get an education and learn from great professors. I look forward to coming back and supporting my school and the team by joining the great alumni base,” Asmus said.

After graduation, Asmus will be attending Findlay University Doctorate of Occupational Therapy starting in the summer.
