AU Theatre production of “Little Women” opens Nov. 2
October 31, 2018
The Ashland University Theatre Department is opening their “Treasured Classics Renewed” season, with their production of the “Little Women.”
“Little Women” is based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott. The musical was created by Jason Howland, Mindi Dickstein and Allan Lee.
“Little Women” is directed by theatre professor, Sean Parker and features a cast of AU students.
Deborah Logan serves as the show’s music director. The cast includes Maya Rickard as Meg, Macy Campbell as Jo and Amy and Syd Genter as Beth.
The classic musical is set during the Civil War and follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy. The musical’s heartfelt tale has connected with audiences for generations and tells the tale of heartache, hope and love.
The timeless play is still impactful, especially in today’s society. Feminist activists such as Emma Watson and Meryl Streep will be featured in a film production of the musical coming out next year.
Director Sean Parker said, “Little Women is now celebrating its 150 year anniversary. It has been translated into more than 50 languages, made into films and television series, and it was adapted for a Broadway musical in 2005. The novel is constantly finding new audiences during a time when women are fighting sexual misconduct, misogyny and pay inequity,” according to the press release.
AU faculty member, Carl Skorepa serves as the show’s technical director while theatre junior Alejandro Ridolfi is the stage manager and master electrician. Eric Breeden of Medina is the assistant stage manager and Nik Demers is the assistant costume designer for “Little Women.”
The show opens on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hugo Young Theatre. Other performances will be on Nov. 3, 9, and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Ashland University Box Office or online at www.ashland.edu/tickets.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and AU faculty and staff. For groups of 10 or more, tickets are $8. Non-AU student tickets are $5 and AU student tickets are $2 with ID.
