Ashland Men Finish 3rd to Cap Off Busy First Week

In the cold steady rain on Saturday (Sept. 8) at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio, Ashland University’s men’s golf team was able to stroke through the rough weather conditions and place third at the 14-team Ohio Cup.

Playing 36 holes in one day for the second time in four days, the Eagle men finished third Saturday at (307-296—603). Northwestern Ohio was the winner at (302-284—586), followed by the host Oilers (300-290—590) and AU.

Junior Patrick Steffen was the Ashland pacesetter, ending in a tie for sixth place at (72-75—147). Steffen finished the day with nine birdies.

Following right behind him was senior Austin Kondratick, whose 11th place showing was highlighted by a fantastic second-round 69, which including five birdies. Eagles sophomore Ben Jones placed in a tie for 14th at (78-72—150).

Rounding out the AU team play were senior Cole Smith tied for 41st, (78-80—158) and redshirt freshman Luke Tanner tied for 47th, (79-81—160). Playing as individuals were sophomores Hunter Lowder tied for 32nd, (83-72—155) and Ben Koshmider tied for 41st, (79-79—158).

The Ashland eagles men won’t return to action until Monday (Sept. 24) for a two day event at the Findlay Fall Invitational at Findlay Country Club.
