Relaxation At The New Art Studio: The Tin Can Chandelier
April 20, 2018
Preparing and studying for finals can be a dreadful task that even the most well-organized student stresses about, so why not take a break and visits Ashland’s very own artist getaway, The Tin Can Chandelier.
“Sometimes when I come home from Kent, my hometown friends and I will go take an art class at the Tin Can,” third year college student Kyle Metzger said. “Not only does this help us all to catch up, but it also calms us all down and gets our mind off of the crazy things for a little bit!”
The rustic art studio, located on Franklin Avenue is for everyone, they have classes for children and adults alike, ranging from basic pottery and arts and crafts, to introduction classes for photography. This art community is seasoned with tenured artists all the way to others who are new to exploring their creative side.
Keelie Mcnamara, owner of the Tin Can came back to Ashland in 2012 searching for a new direction in life. Living in the Akron area for nearly 12 years where there was multiple places to create, she just could not find anything similar here in Ashland. Then the idea of the Tin Can sparked.
“We didn’t know what to expect when we started but we continue to find amazing people to be involved and teach what they are passionate about and this allows for great energy and excitement,” Mcnamara said.
Her biggest goal of the Tin Can is to create a simple business yet one that is filled with enormous energy and allows a place to gather with others.
Not only are they able to give others with similar passions the authority to teach classes, but they also give a place for those eager to learn and try something new.
According to studies done by THE Journal and Campus Technology, “Students are more distracted than ever. They tend to check their digital devices, particularly, their smartphones, an average of 11.43 times during class for non-classroom activities.” Why not use those distractions to look through some of the classes “The Tin Can” has to offer.
Classes can be registered for online or by stopping in on location and speaking to one of the many leaders available. Go on and take that much needed break at The Tin Can Chandelier.
