Track and Field 4/8/18

The Ashland University Track and Field team traveled to the at Northeast Ohio Quad in Akron over the weekend. With the Eagles being well represented across the board, as several eagles won their individual events throughout the weekend.

 

On Friday, April 6th, senior Elijah Talk turned in an improved provisional distance in the men’s shot put, to win the event with a throw of 17.25 meters. Sophomore Alex Hill did the same in the men’s hammer throw, finishing first with a throw of 63.54 meters. Also in the men’s hammer, freshman Brent Fairbanks took third with a throw of 56.78 meters.

In the women’s hammer, junior Mackenzie Leigh was the runner-up with a throw of 56.83 meters, and junior Natalie Helenthal was third with an improved provisional throw of 55.55 meters. Freshman Gianna DiPippo took third in the women’s shot put with a throw of 13.40 meters.

On Saturday, April 7th, two new provisional nationals distances were earned in the women’s high jump, where senior Hannah Bartlome and sophomore Ellie Jindra each finished tied for second place at a top effort of 1.67 meters.

Sophomore Alex Hill improved upon his previous provisional throw in the men’s discus, finishing second with a distance of 52.54 meters.

Eagles earning first-place finishes were junior Tyler Sievert in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.01, and the men’s 4×400 relay team of sophomore Paul Murray and freshmen T.J. Elliott, Channing Phillips and Trevor Bassitt with a time of 3:18.66.

Bassitt was the runner-up in both the men’s 110 hurdles (14.29 seconds) and 300 hurdles (38.57 seconds), while Phillips took thirds in the men’s 100 dash (10.94 seconds) and 150 dash (16.31 seconds). Sophomore Dylan Kipp took third in the men’s javelin throw with a distance of 54.08 meters.

Up next, the Ashland Eagles will be heading to the Oxford, Ohio for the Miami (Ohio) Duals on Saturday, April 14th.
