AU Dominates On the Mat

On Wednesday, Jan. 10th, the Ashland University wrestling team, faced off against D-III Mount Union at Kate’s Gymnasium. The Eagles gave the Purple Raiders their first upset of the season finishing with a 24-10 score.

Ashland senior Bob Mason (7-3) is ranked in the ninth spot at 141 pounds, sophomore Bret Romanzak (24-3) is No. 3 at 165 pounds and Jordan Murphy (8-0) is No. 9 at 184 pounds, all won their matches yesterday against their Mount Union opponents.

Murphy and redshirt-senior Luke Cramer, who is No. 1 (9-0) at 197 pounds, are the only ones for the Eagles that remain undefeated this season.

Ashland got other wins from junior Lawrance Dudgeon (12-8) in the 133 pound class, Christian Price a sophomore (15-7) in 174 pounds and junior Deaken McCoy (10-8) at 285 pounds.

Next up, Ashland will be traveling to Massillon Senior High School, where they will be meeting a familiar tough team. Ashland faced up against Notre Dame (Ohio) back on Jan. 4th and lost 25-12, they will retry their hand at a victory on Sunday, Jan. 14th at 1pm.
