I met my idols and kept most of my composure

By Brian Wells

Everyone has their favorite celebrities, be it Lady Gaga or Eminem or Justin Bieber or whoever. We’d all think it a dream come true if we got to meet them and spend some one-on-one time with our celebs. Well, last Friday, I was lucky enough to meet mine.

I had the opportunity to spend some two-on-two time with the homecoming comedians, The Sklar Brothers, while I took photos of them during an interview. I’ve been following these guys since their first Comedy Central Presents appearance in the ‘90’s. I’ve seen all of their TV shows and most of their cameo appearances.

When I first found out that I would be participating in the interview, I was ecstatic. The week leading up to it was a rush of emotions, mostly excitement that grew more and more as the time neared.

Finally Friday arrived – the big day. Nerves were running wild at this point. I entered Redwood Hall at 7:00 p.m., my scheduled time for the interview.

I quickly received the news that they weren’t there yet. Minutes flew by, and I began to wonder if I would even be doing the interview. Doors opened at 7:30, and we were told that we’d have to do our interview after the show.

They stepped on stage and my timer started- I had ten minutes to get whatever shots of the concert I could. Next to Jack’s Mannequin, I’ve never shot a big name like this.

The show ended, autographs were signed, and at about 10:00 p.m., I had my moment. We (Cody, the reporter, and I)were escorted back to the kitchen, and I promised myself I would wait until after the interview to assume the role of a giddy fan-girl.

My heart stopped when they stepped in. Introductions were made, and I tried not to wet myself. I shot pictures while our editor launched a barrage of questions at them.

Randy and Jason Sklar are both amazing people, who gave great answers, even on topics such as influential television shows or how to make Tuffy the Eagle more intimidating.

The interview ended, I gave Cody a crash-course in how to work my camera, and I assumed the fan-girl position as I received an autograph on a ticket stub and a picture with my celebs.

All in all, it was a great night for me. It still seems surreal, even as I’m writing this half a week later.
