Early goals plague Ashland on the road; home for final four
October 21, 2010
The women’s soccer team was up in Michigan over the long weekend, playing games at Northwood and Saginaw Valley State.
The Eagles came away defeated in both of the games, scoring only one goal while giving up three.
Northwood
Ashland was nearly able to come away with a victory on the road at Northwood Friday night, but early goals in both regulation and overtime doomed them.
In the third minute of the game, Northwood forward Amanda Watson scored a goal off of her own rebound to grab the lead for the Timberwolves. The early goal had Ashland on their heels for much of the first half of play.
In the second half, freshman Deanna Gundling came up with the equalizing goal. Senior Ashley Dragos had the assist on Gundling’s goal. The goal was the freshman’s third in the past two games.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the second minute of overtime. That was when Northwood converted a penalty kick for the sudden-death victory.
Saginaw Valley State
Sunday’s game at Saginaw Valley State was the final road game of the season for the Eagles, who still have four more left at home. Ashland would fall to the Cardinals 1-0.
The goal came from Amanda Kady in the 15th minute. Karly Beuck made eight saves in the game for the Eagles, who fell to a 3-8-2 record on the season.
