Swimmers make a splash in GLIAC
November 3, 2010
Ashland University’s Maura Anderson and Tyler Bailey have been named the GLIAC swimmers of the week. The awards were announced Monday, Nov. 1.
Anderson won two races last Saturday when the Eagles lost at Grand Valley State, 159-84. The junior finished first in the 200 IM in 2:10.35; that time is a “B” cut for nationals. Anderson registered another “B” cut in the 100 breaststroke. She finished first in that event with a time of 1:07.4.
Anderson has had to clear some space in her trophy case the last two weeks. A week ago, she was the NCAA Division II national swimmer of the week.
Bailey was tabbed as the GLIAC men’s swimmer of the week based on his performance at GVSU. He won the 50 freestyle in 21.57 and brought home a gold medal in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.78. That time in the 100 freestyle is a “B” cut for nationals. Bailey was also part of the 800 free relay that was first in 6:58.61. Bailey is a sophomore.
The AU men lost to Grand Valley State, 141-100.
