Authors come to Ashland

By Ethan Greenberger

With National Novel Writing Month, a month dedicated to promoting fiction and novel writing, taking place this November, the Ashland Public Library will be hosting visits from five Ohio authors.

Authors Mike Johnson, Kristina McBride, Shelly Shepard Gray, Dandi Daley Mackall and Boone Bunn will talk about their works from various genres of fiction, the process of writing and their experiences as writers.

In the past, the Ashland Public Library has had authors come and visit.

However, poor turnouts prompted them to host this program.

Kristie Donelson, a library employee, spoke on what brought about these events.

“We like to do author programs here; however, often they are not well attended,” Donelson said.

“We figure this time, if we did more in a month, more people might attend because it’s fresh in their minds.”

All of the events are open to the public and are completely free to attend.

On Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 7-8 p. m., Johnson, a historical fiction writer, will be talking about his novels as well as his experiences writing about World War II, the Korean War and the iron curtain

On Saturday, Nov. 6, from 2-4 p. m., teen and young adult author McBride will discuss the process of writing for teen audiences.

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 6:00-8:30 p. m., Gray will talk about his work with fiction about the Amish as well as discuss her books, writing process and research methods.

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 7-8 p. m., Mackall will talk about her writing and her newest novel, “A Girl Named Dan.”

Mackall is an Ashland country resident and author of over 400 books

On Saturday, Nov. 20, from 2-3 p. m., Bunn will talk about his first novel, “Jimmy Won a Snoggle,” which is set in rural Ohio.

The authors will be selling and signing their books at each talk and the library has copies of many of the books available for check out.
