Ramsey Named Assistant Athletic Director
January 27, 2011
Ashland University head women’s basketball coach Sue Ramsey has been named assistant athletic director/senior women’s administrator.
The announcement was made by AU director of athletics Bill Goldring.
“We’re pleased that we are able to promote Sue Ramsey,” Goldring said. “This reflects her expanded responsibilities, deep commitment and service to the Ashland University athletic department, the university and our mission.”
This is Ramsey’s 16th year as AU’s head women’s basketball coach.
Ramsey has been serving as the university’s senior women’s administrator for several years.
Ramsey is the women’s basketball program’s career leader in victories (244).
Ramsey has guided the Eagles to the only two NCAA Division II postseason berths in school history.
Her Eagles have won 20 or more games in a season three times and the 2003-04 team set a school, single-season record for victories. That team went 23-8.
Ramsey is recognized as a leader in women’s basketball circles on the conference, regional and national levels.
She is on the board of directors for the Women’s Basketball Coaches of America (WBCA) where she is the NCAA Division II legislative chair.
In the past, she has served on the NCAA Division II women’s basketball regional and national committees.
Ramsey’s teams are known for excelling on the court, in the classroom and in community service.
The 2008-09 team finished third in the nation in team grade point average and the 2007-08 team was 15th nationally in team grade point average.
As the senior women’s administrator at AU, Ramsey has taken an active role in mentoring coaches and working with student-athletes.
For several years, she served as the adviser for AU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council chapter.
“I am both grateful and honored to be named assistant athletic director,” Ramsey said. “Our athletic department consists of quality people who not only believe, but daily live out the philosophy of this university, ‘Accent on the Individual.’ I am so blessed to be working with Bill Goldring, the staff and coaches and the student-athletes who make this a first class organization.”
