The Secret Menu: Challenge 14: The French Cheddar Hamburger
March 23, 2011
For this edition of the Secret Menu, I had plans of covering a hamburger in some sort of batter and deep-frying it. The idea came from the show “Man vs. Food.” The host traveled to some restaurant where they did just that and it looked delish.
Unfortunately, the Eagle’s Nest didn’t have a batter to cover the hamburger so I had to call an audible. I remembered how fantastic those little cheddar rounds are, so I told the nice young lady taking my order to please give me a hamburger with cheddar rounds and fries on it. Yeah, this isn’t the most intriguing Secret Menu but to quote the lady in line in front of me, “That sounds good!”
The most difficult part of the sandwich was its size. As you can see, The French Cheddar Hamburger had to be smashed down to enjoy a respectable bite.
As far as the taste goes, not bad. Not amazing but it certainly is no slouch in the taste category. The cheddar rounds are, without a doubt, the best aspect. I’m not going to say you can put cheddar rounds on anything but those little balls full of creamy goodness are amazing! In order to clear up any confusion about that last sentence, I like girls.
Getting back to the French Cheddar Hamburger, it’s not bad. For the price of the hamburger and two sides which come on the hamburger, it’s a pretty good meal.
The biggest flaw would be, yet again, the lack of sauce. Apparently I need some sort of sauce class. I’m no cook, but I’ve been told sauce can make any food better. This is definitely a prime example. A spicy tangy sauce on this puppy would really tie it together nicely.
Overall, I give the hamburger a solid B. With a good sauce, it easily bumps up into the A range. A special shout out goes to the worker that made my hamburger. Kudos to you for putting up with my ridiculousness when ordering.
If you take anything from this Secret Menu, I hope that you begin to put cheddar rounds on everything. Tune in next week when I will hopefully have something covered in grease and deep-fried.
