Video Music Awards honors artists in life and in death

Last Sunday, MTV’s annual Video Music Awards took place in Los Angeles, CA. The show opened with a performance by a smoking and drinking “Man Gaga.” The artist received Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message for “Born This Way.”

Beyonce stole the spotlight singing “Love on Top.” Her performance ended with the unbuttoning of her sparkly suit to reveal her very noticeable baby bump. The artist’s song, “Run the World” won the award for Best Choreography. Husband and daddy-to-be Jay Z performed “Otis” with Kanye. Other performances included Chris Brown and closing the show with his $150,000 gold teeth was Lil’ Wayne. Adele took the stage also, and won two awards for “Rolling in the Deep” – Best Art Direction and Cinematography.

Katy Perry’s “Firework” won video of the year. The artist’s song “E.T.” featuring Kanye also took home two awards including Best Collaboration and Special Effects. “You Smile” by Justin Bieber won Best Male Video and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” received the Best Hip Hop Video award.

The VMA’s made a tribute to Best Pop Video artist, Britney Spears. A tribute was also made to the late Amy Whinehouse. In loving memory, Bruno Mars dedicated his performance to her.

The 2011 VMA’s honored some amazing artists, both in life and death. It was yet another great year for music and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
