New Sound for 88.9 WRDL
September 28, 2011
Many students don’t know that Ashland University has a radio station. If they do know about it, they know that they can tune in to hear sports shows, a friend’s talk show or hear various different genres of music.
With new equipment and hopes for a new and improved format, 88.9 WRDL will become the station to listen to. Danielle Slone, the program director for the station, is excited about the changes.
“Right now we’ve got a lot of changes going on,” Slone said. “We are currently in the process of switching our format to alternative rock. It’s also going to include indie rock.”
With this new format, 88.9 WRDL also hopes to bring in local bands and artists for live performances and interviews.
“Radio stations in this area kind of tend to focus on classic rock, pop, young adult top 40, top 10 stations and country,” Slone said. “There’s really no one in this particular area that focuses on alternative rock but more specifically the local bands, so we really hope to incorporate them.”
One of the great things about WRDL and the Journalism and Digital Media department is that students are able to get involved in the programs as soon as they step foot onto campus.
“We have one freshman student who is interested in doing a comedian type of show which is something I haven’t seen on WRDL since I’ve been involved,” Slone said. “I’m really hoping that students are going to get involved, start listening, start interacting and get excited because the entire Journalism and Digital Media department is going through so many changes and improvements.”
Over the summer the radio station received a new sound board and has been upgrading Tunetracker, the automation system.
“The Journalism and Digital Media department has had several changes in The Collegian and TV2, so this year WRDL is getting its big opportunity to shine,” Slone said.
Make sure to tune into 88.9 WRDL starting October 1st to hear their new sound!
