CAB Presents: Acoustic Café

By Chris Beisel

The Eagles Landing was set, decorated and feeling quite comfortable. Indeed a perfect setting for some student entertainment. Sure enough, anyone who happened to be spectating last Friday night was graced by the musical presence of eight Ashland students. The event, which went on from 9 p.m. to midnight, seemed to leave everyone in attendance highly satisfied with the talent we have here at Ashland.

Ana Reynolds, Alex Mock, Tom Julian, Sarah Toby, Lauren Dakters, Cale Lariccia, Bret Cauden and Conner Darsee all shared their musical talent with Ashland University. There was indeed a wide range of music performed such as that of Destiny’s Child, Outkast, Jack Johnson, Lady Gaga, Nickleback, Kings of Leon, Greenday, Bob Dylan and much more.

The first Acoustic Café of the year was certainly a success. In fact, the eight couragous performers went on stage in front of a full house. The success of the exciting evening is credited to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) who planned and put together the entire night.

Those Ashland students who were unable to attend the fun-filled CAB night certainly missed quite a bit of memorable performances. The whole crowd was wowed by Ana Reynold’s impressive musical talents which included her super catchy rendition of Destiny’s Child’s “Say my Name.” Alex Mock brought his own talent to the table with the four songs he played, including “Banana Pancakes.” Sarah Toby revealed her fondness of Lady Gaga, by serenating the crowd with Gaga’s “Paparazzi” and “Poker Face.”

Additionally, no one present that night will forget Tom Julian’s hilarious time on stage. As Julian initially took the stage, he grabbed the crowd’s attention immediatley with his Nickleback mockery and humorous 30 Seconds to Mars impression, in which we learned his thoughts on emo music. Julian also shared his very clever “Mario Kart Love Song.” Lauren Dakters kept the crowd entertained with her performance of the Kings of Leon song “Use Somebody.” Cale Lariccia declared that “class was in session” with his contributions to the night’s talent, which included Third Eye Blind’s “How’s it Gonna Be?” and Greenday’s “Time of Your Life.” Perhaps one of the top highlights of the night was Bret Cauden’s jaw-dropping musical performance. Going another route than any other Acoustic Café performer, Cauden amazed the crowd by singing beautiful French classical music. The final performer of the night was Conner Darsee who, as he stated, covered the Folk genre for the evening. Darsee certainly concluded the night on a good note with his performance, which included his tributes to Bob Dylan and Jenny Lewis.

Overall, CAB’s Sept. 16 Acoustic Café was an incredible success. Considering the entertaining music yielded a full house, the next Acoustic Café, to take place in November is without a doubt anticipated among AU students. Anyone is encouraged to take the stage for Acoustic Café, which can be done by signing up on the night of the event.
