No car? No sweat

Need a lift? Try the Walmart Shuttle Bus. It is a bus service for anyone without a car on campus or who just needs a ride to get groceries. The bus picks up and drops off passengers in the visitors parking lot next to Bixler. It is $3 for a round trip, and runs 3-9 p.m., Monday-Friday, and every half hour Saturdays. Times and prices are on the sign by the parking lot.

For every bus ticket you purchase, you write your name on the ticket and bring it to the International Student Center in the library for a drawing. There is a monthly drawing for $5 Walmart gift cards and at the end of the semester, a $50 gift card.

Nathan Myers, executive director of international programs, is the one who started this bus route. He verifies that the bus has a pretty steady student rate that uses it and predicts it will increase in the winter. It would certainly be convenient when the streets are bad, even if you do have a car.

“I would love to expand (the bus service) if it is successful,” Myers said. “I’d like to have it run for seven days a week and go other places other than Walmart.”
