Admissions Office re-staffs; new faces, more multi-tasking
November 17, 2011
While some students have noticed and some have not, the Ashland University Office of Admissions has undergone a makeover, or as they call it in the professional world, a restructuring.
As of May 2011, gone are the familiar faces of Tom Mansperger, Becky Barnes, Gayle Lantz and Vick Wirick.
With the departures of former admissions staff, Ashland University decided to hire a total of ten new people to fill different rolls in the Office of Admissions.
“It’s definitely been a challenge here in the Admissions Office,” Tina Cunningham, assistant director of admission said. “But all of these [new] people have proven to be successful so far and they bring a positive energy to the office.”
Cunningham has also hired more tour guides to handle the increased flow of visits due to the office allowing more appointments.
The changes haven’t been easy for the tour guides but they have generally been pleased with the new faces in the office.
“As a whole we really enjoy the new people we have working in the office,” Nate Cooper, a junior tour guide, said, “but I don’t like how the situation was handled this summer while I was working there. I’m sure I don’t know the whole story, but I felt like a bomb was dropped on the office and those who remained were left to clean up the mess.”
There are five new admissions representatives in the office.
Ashland alumna Denise Baker is the new representative for Dams, Auglaize, Brown, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Fairfield, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Logan, Madison, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Pickaway, Pike, Preble, Ross, Scioto, Shelby, Union, Vinton and Warren counties as well Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
Justin “JJ” Johnson is the new representative for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties as well as New York state.
Kate Kastl now represents Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Marion, Morrow, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties along with Michigan state.
AU alumni Troy Miller will now be the representative for Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Washington counties.
Ashley Warholic is the new admissions representative for Delaware, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Holmes, Coshocton and Muskingum counties as well as Pennsylvania State.
Along with the five new representatives, Ashland University also hired a new campus visit coordinator, Angie Kessinger.
There is a new applications secretary on staff by the name of Ashley Crouch.
Tiffany Roberts was brought on as the new assistant to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, Scott Van Loo.
W.C. Vance became the new director of admissions November 14, 2011.
With the restructuring and hiring of new staff, some of the employees in the Admissions Office have had to take on additional roles and duties to make sure that the office reaches its goals.
Cunningham, while also being an assistant director, is new transfer student coordinator. Sherar supervises all of the admissions representatives. Winkel is now in charge of the office’s CommFlow and Johnson is also the new multicultural recruiter.
