Princess for a day offers the chance to make others feel beautiful

By Logan Gay

There is one event out of the entire school year that many high school girls look forward to – prom.

Prom is considered to be one of the only days in a girl’s life, besides her wedding day, that she can be a princess: get her makeup done and wear a gorgeous gown.

It is a special time in a young girl’s life when everything can seem magical and it’s a time that one might never want to forget.

Unfortunately, there are some girls who cannot afford the price of such extravagances.

Prom dresses continue to get more beautiful and creative; also more expensive.

That’s where the students of Ashland University come in.

The Ashland Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center will be hosting its second annual event, “The Princess’s Closet,” from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., March 15, which entails a non-profit night of pre-prom pampering, glamour and fun for high school girls in the Ashland County.

AU students can donate jewelry, shoes and gently used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses or homecoming dresses to help out the Kroc Center and the girls of Ashland.

Drop-off points are at the Kroc Center, which is located at 527 E. Liberty Street, and at AU’s Kem Hall, 4th floor back lobby.

They will accept any size, color or style. Every girl deserves the chance to feel like a princess for a day.

AU students are urged to consider donating. It’s a chance to extend a helping hand.
