Lip Sync hits the stage

Fraternities and sororities on Ashland University’s campus kicked off Greek Week a little early Thursday, March 22. The Greek chapters competed in their annual Lip Sync, the crowning jewel to Greek Week.

The Alpha Delta Pi sorority set the bar high by beginning off the competition. The sorority’s performance showed a lot of school spirit. The sorority was all decked out in football, basketball, baseball and cheerleading uniforms, wrestling singlets and referee jerseys, while the Tuffy costume also made an appearance.

The first fraternity to take the stage was Phi Kappa Psi, who performed to popular music from the ‘90s. Their songs ranged from the Backstreet Boys to the Spice Girls and even to American rock pop band, Smash Mouth.

Phi Mu took the audience back to their childhood by creating a sleepover scene. Their music selection included the Hannah Montana, Spongebob Squarepants, Happy Days and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme songs that had the whole audience singing along. Before their performance reached an end, Phi Mu had everyone in the crowd on their feet.

Phi Delta Theta’s fraternity showed the comparisons between rap and country music by alternating the genres. The gentlemen also created a not-so-happy love story that ended with the accidental dropping of a baby doll.

Alpha Phi performed with the theme “Having Good Times.” Their performance included many talents such as baton twirling, tap dancing and ballet.

Alpha Phi was followed by Tau Kappa Epsilon who showed the audience the way they believe school will exist in the future.

The last performance of the evening was made by Delta Zeta. The DZ girls advertised Apple by all wearing their brand icon on tank tops and pointing out the impact smart phones have had on our generation.

The winners of the 2012 Lip Sync competition were announced immediately after all chapters had performed.

Phi Delta Theta took second place for the fraternities. Winning for the gentlemen was Phi Kappa Psi.

For the girls, third place was given to Alpha Phi. The runner-up was Delta Zeta. The winner for the sororities was Alpha Delta Pi.
